ABOUT GAME/SHOW.

GAME/SHOW is a new podcast exploring the surprising similarities between football and theatre and the wider intersections between culture and sport.

Love football? And theatre? Weird. But also surprisingly common. What is it about the stands and the stalls that attract so many of the same people and inspire the same degree of obsession?

GAME/SHOW explores common ground on the pitch and on stage, in art and in sport.

"Footballers can be like artists when the mind and body are working as one. It is what Miles Davis does when he plays free jazz – everything pulls together into one intense moment that is beautiful.” Lillian Thuram

THE TEAM

GAME/SHOW is created by theatre director James Grieve and sound designer Tom Gibbons with a focus on the high production values, storytelling, drama and outstanding sound design they bring to their multi award winning theatre projects.

James & Tom created GAME/SHOW from hours of conversations about their twin passions of theatre and football and a desire to explore the ways in which sport, art and culture interact and intersect.

JAMES

James is an award winning theatre director whose recent work includes FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS on tour in the UK and Canada and CABARET for Gothenburg Opera in Sweden. He was formerly Joint Artistic Director of Paines Plough - the UK’s national theatre of new plays.

James used to have a season ticket at Old Trafford. He was behind the goal in the Nou Camp on 26 May 1999. He now watches United mostly on TV and gets his live fix watching his home town club Folkestone Invicta in The Isthmian Premier League.

TOM

Tom is an Olivier award winning sound designer and composer for musicals, plays and film, working in the UK and internationally. His work can mainly be heard on Broadway and in the West End.

Tom is a die-hard Gooner, his first footballing memories being the double domestic cup winning season of 92/93, the first Premiership season. Living through the early/mid Wenger years at Arsenal is one of his most cherished experiences.

He would choose football over theatre every day of the week.
